LEAD like a Girl is a program for middle and high school girls. Each year, LEAD like a Girl staff, interns, and volunteers work with girls to increase their self-efficacy, resiliency, and positive connection to peers and role models. With support from the LEAD like a Girl program staff, interns, volunteers, and peers, we provide a safe space for girls in grades 6-12 to learn and discuss the skills they need to navigate girlhood. As a LEAD like a Girl volunteer, you will attend sessions at a local school and act as a co-facilitator alongside the LEAD like a Girl program lead, all while forming encouraging and caring relationships with the girls in the program. Volunteers lead ice breakers, activities, facilitate discussions, and provide assistance to the LEAD LIKE A GIRL program lead on-site.
L.E.A.D Like a Girl SWFL, which stands for leadership, education, advocacy and development, began in 2017 by Claribel Bocanegra, Kelly Thwaley and a group of women who understand why safe spaces for open dialogue are important to forging our identities and fostering self love and empowerment to become the best versions of ourselves possible.
We aim to teach young women that our strength is in our union and that together we can continue to create a more equitable society for all.
We create safe spaces to empower, cultivate and inspire young women in SW Florida and beyond to succeed in every aspect of their lives.
We envision a world in which all girls and young women, regardless of race, ethnicity, income level or social status, are nurtured and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
